How It Started
as told by Sophie
Quin and I met through Instagram, but I still think it was a setup. I started following Quin on Instagram after his brother Austin told me to check out a picture his brother posted of his '“cute dog Dot.” Austin promised me he would explain to his brother who I was and why I was following him.
Two days later, I was on tour in Brazil, having completely forgotten about it, when I got a DM from Quin saying, “Hi. Who are you?” After a bit of embarrassment and a quick explanation, we started messaging back and forth for about 23.5 hours a day. Within the next few days, Quin asked if we could Facetime when I got back to the hotel. I put on some blush, poured a glass of wine, and got the nerve to Facetime someone I had never met. I introduced myself to this cute guy on the other side of the world and think we hung up after 3+ hours of talking.
Our story continued with us making plans on where and how we could meet. The day we started planning to finally meet I got some unfortunate news, my dad Eddie had a sudden stroke and was taken to the ICU where he would pass away a few days later.
All along the way, the man behind the Facetime talked to me as I walked through the airport, lost and confused, telling me light-hearted jokes to keep me focused as I made my way to be by my dad’s side. Every morning Quin would remind me to tell my dad my thoughts, as sound was the last thing to go; at that moment, I knew I had been sent a guardian angel to help me through one of the most challenging moments in my life.
We continued FaceTiming and talking day in and day out for the next few weeks while Quin continued to make me laugh and smile every day.
Finally, after a few months, I was traveling to NYC for a Foster the People show and to finally meet, what I already knew, was the man of my dreams.
How its Going
as told by Quinten
It was at that Foster the People show that Sophie was tour managing where I fully realized how special she was. “Boss ass b*tch” is an understatement. Those of you that have had the privilege of seeing her in her element know exactly what I mean. She has a clear objective for every project and won’t stop until the show is perfect. I witnessed how far she would go when a hotel staff member messed up some reservations and I was in the elevator alone with them a few minutes later. The employee had no clue who I was and was visibly stressed. I asked them how they were doing and they replied after a long sigh “man, are you with the band? Because that woman (Sophie) doesn’t mess around. I know she wears the pants in her relationships!” I laughed and said, “I know for a fact, she does.”.
The level of commitment and passion she has for everything she does is truly remarkable and inspiring. It’s one of my favorite qualities about her and one of the many reasons why I knew she was the one.
Fast forward three years, and it has become extremely clear to me that a high-level tour manager and event producer has a very precise way of doing things, and I’ve apparently been brushing my teeth wrong for 26 years!
Jump to October and it was time for a little weekend to Big Bear. I had the ring ready and now I just needed to pop the question. It was 4:00 am Saturday morning and I was wide-eyed staring at the ceiling with nerves and excitement running through my body. We finally got upstairs for coffee. After talking a bit, I start making my way to one knee. It was at this moment I realized the few “proposal jokes” I’ve made in the past weren’t helping because Sophie thought I was kidding. Many tears and glasses of champagne later, we knew we were bound for life.
I’m not exactly sure where this journey we call life will take us, but I do know it will be filled with unconditional love and support, great food & wine, memorable experiences with friends and family, and world exploration.
As John Mayer once said, “Let’s grow old together, that sounds like fun.”
Many Firsts.
